Ultimate Packing Essentials List

People always ask me, “What should I pack for my upcoming trip?” so I created this list. For me, aside from clothes, I pack the same essential items no matter where I go, and I never check any bags! Here is a comprehensive list for everything I pack on every trip.

I will always have either a carry-on backpack or suitcase with me. 35-40L backpacks are the perfect size for any duration of traveling: big enough to fit everything and just the right size for a carry-on for any flight.
Note: Accepted size for most flights is 9 inches x 14 inches x 22 inches

What Goes Inside

Of course, all my shoes and clothes go into my carry-on. Other than that, make sure all your liquids are less than 100 mL. I like to keep all of mine in a clear Liquids + Toiletries pouch.

  • Makeup Bag
  • Travel-size shampoo + conditioner
  • Contacts/Contact solution + case (I’m blinder than a bat)
  • Toothbrush + toothpaste
  • Lotion
  • Deodorant, razor, nail clippers
  • Tums
  • Band-aids
  • Mosquito repellent
  • Sunscreen
  • Hairbrush
  • Power Strip

Personal Item

As a personal item, I take a tote bag or backpack for daytime activities like exploring the streets, shopping, hiking, depending on where I go.
Note: Accepted size for most flights is 9 inches x 10 inches x 17 inches

What Goes Inside

The personal item goes under the seat in front of me on a flight so everything I want on the plane will be easily accessible, including a light sweater when it gets chilly. Everything electronics and entertainment related will go in here!

Small Purse + Card Holder

This is to carry all my important documents throughout the airport doubling as my purse for going out at night. I’ve never had a problem with bringing this with me, but I can always fit it inside my personal item if anyone gives me issues.

And Don’t Forget

Ultimate Packing Essentials List for every single trip!

  1. Call your bank to notify them of international travel. You don’t want yourdebit/credit card to stop working while you’re in another country – international collect calls aren’t fun to make!
  2. Download offline Google Maps on your phone to track your location in another country even when you’re not connected to wi-fi!
  3. Always bring copies of your travel documents, just in case.

  1. A great guide!! Not only is it super helpful but there are some realy cute bags on here that I’m gonna need to “research”.lol

  2. YESSSSS to calling your bank before all else! I didn’t do that once and had to have my mom pretend to be me and call my bank to have my account unlocked because I couldn’t call internationally… Ha!

  3. I absolutely love packing! And I always get that feeling that I forgot something so your list is perfect for me! I’m gonna have to check items off your list when I pack heh

  4. This really is a perfect guide! I’ve never heard of the Downy wrinkle releaser, but it sounds like something I need to look into. I always have a problem with wrinkled clothes, but don’t always have access to an iron. I’m curious to see how well it works! 🙂

    1. Hi Karina! It’s definitely been useful to have especially when I pack everything into my backpack, hope it helps for your next trip!
