Fix THESE ACTIONS to Make More Money!

If you feel like you’re “working” all the time but not getting more clients, sales, or sponsors, then this episode is for you. I break down the difference between busywork and true income-generating activities (IGAs) to help you make more money in your business!

Tune in or read the blog version below!

Maximise Income in Your Business

Today we are going to be talking about how to make more money in your business. I just recorded a training in the Wanderlover Coaching Group on this. If you aren’t part of the coaching group, I highly recommend you join us because this is where you’re going to get accountability and the action steps to take your business to the next level.

This episode was inspired by members in the coaching group who voiced that they are struggling with monetization. One member mentioned that she would like to get more sponsors. Another member said she’s having trouble with media. She’s struggling with how to get noticed so that she can get more sponsorship and funding. Another member said marketing for new clients who are ready to level up is one of their struggles. And another mentioned making more income.

After coaching so many people through these blocks, it always comes down to how we spend our time while working on our businesses. Think about it: if your actions influence your results and you’re not getting the results that you want, we must change our actions.

Focus on Income Generating Activities (IGAs)

In this episode, I am introducing the concept of focusing on income-generating activities, or IGAs, for your business. If you are not spending time every day on income-generating activities, you will not, in turn, generate income.

If you are just starting out, it might be confusing what to focus on because there are so many hats you’re wearing. There is so much to do. But if you focus more of your time on these income-generating activities going forward, I guarantee you will be making more money.

So I’m going to start off by first listing all of the common culprits of non-income generating activities that I see many business owners focus on that they think. They’re moving the needle, but it’s actually not. So let’s start with the non-income generating activities first, and then we will focus on income generating activities.

Common Non-Income Generating Activities

First, let’s look at the common culprits of non-income-generating activities that many business owners mistakenly focus on:

  • Tweaking your website or branding (fonts, formats, brand guides), sometimes for the 10th time.
  • Spending hours on Canva creating graphics without linking to an offer.
  • Scrolling on Instagram, TikTok, or YouTube for “inspiration” without actionable takeaways.
  • Taking endless free courses without implementing what you learn.
  • Writing long captions or blog posts with no call to action.
  • Perfecting brand photos before launching products or services.
  • Organizing Google Drive, Notion, ClickUp, or your workspace endlessly.
  • Updating your bio or link bio repeatedly without directing traffic.
  • Checking analytics every day instead of promoting or selling.
  • Brainstorming ideas or jotting notes but never launching or selling.

So keep in mind that while all of these actions are necessary, if you are spending the majority of your time, however, focusing on them, they are not going to generate income.

This also applies to how much time you spend in your days focusing on current clients versus trying to get new ones. So non-income generating activities with your current clients look like:

  • Spending hours tweaking client work beyond what was agreed.
  • Giving too much free support without boundaries.
  • Procrastinating on sales and marketing by only working on current projects.

Transforming Non-Income Activities into Revenue

Now my question for you is, can you identify with any of these actions? Do you see yourself falling into the trap of maybe focusing on any of these actions for too long? And the good news is, if you can, we can take different actions to get different results. If you are currently not at the income level you wish to be in, all we have to do is change our non-income generating activities into income generating ones.

IGAs with your current clients or customers:

  1. Deliver paid coaching calls or services within the scope of what was purchased.
  2. Ask for testimonials or case studies to leverage in marketing.
  3. Offer renewals or upsells to increase order value.
  4. Ask happy clients for referrals or create a referral program.

All of these things can leverage your existing pool of clients and customers to create more income outside of that.

Core IGA’s:

Consistently Promote Your Offers Across Platforms

So posting about your services, your programs, your products on Instagram, in your email, on stories on YouTube, on your podcast, on TikTok. Don’t assume people already know you need to be linking and talking about them over and over again. So for example, even on this podcast episode, I mention my Wonderlover Coaching Group. I direct traffic to click the link in the episode description to join us. I also have links in the episode description of other monetizable offers.

Be Proactive with Brand Partnerships

This also goes for brand partnerships. When I first started pitching to brands, I sent out so many emails a day, actively sending out proposals to companies you want to work with, not just waiting for them to come to you. If you rely on brand collaborations or sponsorships, you really need to be proactive until you can get someone to take over this. For you, nail down how you are monetizing and then you can delegate.

Nurture Current and Past Leads

Next, you can nurture current leads, so replying quickly, answering questions, move conversations towards booking. Have a list of all the people who are warm, who are ready to buy or work with you and follow up with them. You can also follow up with old leads. So go back to people who showed interest but didn’t buy — many just need another touchpoint. So whether that’s another email, another DM, make sure you are following up.

Create Content with Clear Calls to Action

Moving on to content creation. With creating content, you need a call to action. Every piece of content should invite your audience to the next step, which is to book a call, to download, or to join. It should always have a call to action and a purpose for that piece of content, not just creating something and hoping that your business makes money. Create with the intention to monetize. This will definitely drive up your income.

Expand Income Through Affiliate Marketing

This also goes for affiliate marketing. If you expand your affiliate promotions, such as creating content around it, sharing affiliate links in your newsletter or blog, you are focusing on marketing your other income streams.

Book Discovery Calls to Convert Leads

Another income-generating activity is booking discovery calls. Prioritize time in your calendar for calls that can close into paying clients, especially if you have a high-ticket offer or a done-for-you service.

Use Paid Advertising to Scale Your Business

And last but not least, you can leverage all of these actions by using Facebook or Google advertising. You can pay to get your ad in front of your ideal clients and customers without having to drive the traffic yourself. You’re basically paying for new leads, new clients, and new customers.

Track, Test, and Scale

So do you see how all of these income-generating activities lead people to pay you for your products and services?

If you are not doing these activities, people aren’t going to be paying you for your products and services. So basically spend less time on busy work and more time on sales and marketing. Track your return on investment for all of these actions and do more of what is working if you see a real takeoff, and get you more leads and get you more clients and customers.

Do more of that. If you tweak your pitches and you realize that one of the pitches outperforms others, continue pitching with that new pitch, you’re going to learn from the actions you take, what is going to make you the most income. And once you figure out what is working, you can leverage advertising or leverage hiring help to do more of that, but you have to focus on what makes you the most money, what generates income for your own business.
