Mindset, Motherhood, and Entrepreneurship
Hello, my loves. Welcome back to the Wanderlover Podcast. My baby boy turns nine months in a few days, and it is so true what they say: the days are long, but the years are short. The past nine months have absolutely flown by this whole year. I cannot believe there are only a few weeks left of 2025. I feel like I have lived so many different lives in a matter of a few months, and today I want to really share behind the scenes of what my life and business have looked like this past year, starting from traveling to multiple countries long haul with a newborn, navigating motherhood, obviously maintaining multiple five figure months in business through it all, and now working towards my Brazilian citizenship.
Living an Untraditional, International Family Life
Needless to say, my family did not do things traditionally. We live a very untraditional life. We are raising our baby abroad. We still choose to travel, and I would say it really supports us thriving as an international family. I am at a point where I want to share my secret formula for success as an entrepreneurial mom.
I have broken it down to four main categories that I constantly focus on:
- Mindset
- Systems
- Support
- Flow.
So whether you are a mom, a mom to be, or if you are a multi-passionate individual or multi-passionate creative while you are building your dream online business, this episode will show you that you really can do it all. I want to be super intentional with giving you the inspiration that you need to feel like you are thriving in every aspect of your life.
A Realistic Perspective on Imperfection
So I want to first start with a little reality check and a little disclaimer that I do not always have it together 110 percent of the time. I am not preaching to you saying I am this perfect mother, business owner, woman, and this is what I do to have it all. Like I said before, I live my life very untraditionally, and that obviously comes with its own challenges. Imposter syndrome, paralysis by analysis, having way too many things going on in my brain at once. Being a mom and an entrepreneur is not easy, but I will say it is so worth it, and I would not choose any other struggles in this life. If I had to choose difficulties, I choose the ones I currently go through.
I honestly cannot even start telling you how much I have grown both as a person and a business owner. There were days where I questioned whether everything I had built was worth it. There were days where I questioned if everything I have built was sustainable, and countless times when I thought, how the hell am I going to do this all? But here is the honest truth. It all comes down to your formula and how fast you bounce back from those times of doubt and uncertainty, how you bounce back and move forward stronger than before. So I am not saying I have it perfect, but I do have a formula to continue moving forward and continue expanding so that everyone around me is thriving.
Mindset in Business and Motherhood
Let us start with the mindset piece because honestly, mindset is the foundation of everything in life and in business. We start with mindset in all of my programs, and it is so fitting that I start with mindset when it comes to thriving as a business owner and a mother.
If I could give one piece of advice to every human being out there, I have said this over and over in my programs, and I am going to preach it at the top of my lungs as a mother. Done is better than perfect. If you completely get rid of the notion of even trying to be perfect, trying to be a perfect business owner, or trying to be a perfect mother, or trying to be a perfect partner, you will be so much happier. Perfectionism kills progress and it makes you feel horrible about yourself, especially in motherhood where if it is your first time, you are still trying to figure out how to do everything, you are still learning, and nothing ever goes exactly to plan. That is okay.
You have to celebrate every single little win from just getting things done, even if you do it wrong. Celebrate getting things done. When you can reach a point where you are celebrating feeding your child, taking a walk outside, or doing something new in motherhood, when you embrace imperfection it lets go of so much guilt. And guilt is a word I hear thrown around all the time. There are a thousand and one reasons why moms feel guilty. But if you do not feed into that narrative and you release that from yourself, you are going to be a better person and a better mother.
On top of that, do not compare yourself to anyone else. Every single baby is different. Every business is different. Every journey and every family is different. So if you find yourself spiraling on social media, mute people. You can mute their stories, you can mute their posts, and you do not need to explain yourself to anyone. You have full permission to take up space, move slower, and create in your own season whenever you feel ready. You always have a choice, even when it does not feel easy, and even if you have never done these actions before.
Building Support Systems
The next piece of my formula is support. This comes from my business background because you do not have to do it all. (Check out my previous episode of when and what to outsource in your business). You need to stay in your zone of genius in order for you to thrive. If you are constantly doing things that you are not made to do, if you feel tension or dread around certain tasks, see if there is another way.
As moms, we often fall into the trap of trying to do everything ourselves, like caring for the baby, running the business, managing the household, planning trips, but entrepreneurship and motherhood both require support and community. Entrepreneurship is a full time job, and being a mother is a full time job, so you have to treat both with structure and support. Communicate your needs clearly and hire help if you can, or be near family if you are able to. It is unsustainable if you try to do everything yourself, and that is something you learn the hard way either through business or motherhood.
Do not be afraid to ask for help and do not be afraid to do things differently. Because we moved to Brazil, we are able to have much more help than if I were to have stayed in, for example, America or England. My parents are still both working, I have no other family, and it is difficult to have a village in America. Similarly, how my team carried me through maternity leave and allowed me to take so many months off. I also have help in our household. We have babysitters. When Leven was a newborn, we had night nurses. We have someone who comes and deep cleans the house every week. We are able to outsource and hire help when needed. Rags and I prioritize date nights and we are able to have time to ourselves. Through it all, if I did not communicate my needs, then that is on me. When you communicate to yourself and to those around you what you need and you find support for it, your life becomes so much easier.
Creating Sustainable Systems
The next part of my formula is systems, the power of passive income and automation. Let us be honest. No matter how aligned your mindset is, if your business depends 100 percent on your time and energy, it is not going to be sustainable. During maternity and postpartum, my business continued to make multiple five figure months, and that was not by accident. It was because I had built systems that worked for me on autopilot.
Funnels, email sequences, passive income offers, a way for my audience to continue growing on autopilot. These systems allowed me to keep growing and making sales while I was offline, while I was traveling, nursing, or resting. So if you are listening to this and you are still doing everything manually, take this as your sign to start automating in your business. Think about what can be scheduled or outsourced. What can generate passive income? How can people find and buy from you 24/7? Thinking about these systems will give you more freedom.
On the other hand, in your household you can implement similar systems. For example, Rags and I take shifts every night for baby feeds. We take turns handling nighttime and morning shifts because the baby usually wakes up between 5 and 6 AM, sometimes 7 AM if we get lucky. Because we have this system and communicate clearly, one of us is always able to get a full night of rest at least every other day.
We have systems to support each other’s happiness. If one of us wants to go surfing, the other takes baby duty. Two months ago I had a friend’s wedding in DC to go to. We moved things around our calendar to make sure it all worked. These systems do not create themselves. It takes trial and error and time. But if you create systems to make everything run more smoothly, it is worth it.
Embracing Flow and Returning to Yourself
The last piece of this formula is flow, what I call returning to yourself and your next level. Say no to things or tasks that are not aligned. You are allowed to be protective of your energy. You cannot pour from an empty cup as a business owner and as a mom, so if you feel stretched thin, say no to things that are not high on your priority list.
I have become so good at saying no to things. I used to feel like I was missing out, but now I realize that my peace and clarity are worth so much more than any plan. Prioritizing myself meant that the first thing I wanted to do postpartum was get back to surfing and feeling strong in my pre-pregnancy body. Allowing life and business to move in a rhythm that feels good rather than forced, rather than feeling like you have to go back to who you were. The reality is you will never be that person again. The next few years are about creating your new identity. That is what flow gives you. Space to expand when it feels right.
Success does not have to mean burnout or sacrifice. You can have flow and structure, motherhood and entrepreneurship, travel and stability. Give yourself time to become and remember to celebrate every milestone and every little win. From your first hundred dollars with a baby to your next six figure month, it is all proof that you can do both. It is not about balancing. It is about integration and becoming someone bigger and better.
Recapping the Formula for Entrepreneurial Moms
So to recap my secret formula for success as an entrepreneurial mom: mindset plus systems plus support plus flow. You can do it all if you want to. You can build your dream business and raise your family and continue traveling. You can live in flow and still achieve incredible success on your own terms.
